The U.S. Treasury Department’s looking to make it easier for small and mid-size businesses to make their tax payments electronically with software like Quickbooks.
The department’s had a program to pilot test a free interface between its Electronic Federal Tax Payment System and Intuit’s Quickbook software since July 2007, and they’re looking to expand the program.
Plans are for financial institutions with online banking services to get their own interface, and then third-party software developers will get one.
The Treasury Department’s been trying to transition its old dial-up system to a batch provider version for the past couple of years as it works to convince more taxpayers and businesses to make electronic payments.
