Fundraising the new-fashioned way

The nonprofit world’s taking a page from the for-profit sector these days, and many nonprofits are using the power of technology to fill their coffers. But instead of selling merchandise and services, nonprofits are using the Web and its connections to bring in donations.

Fundraisers and nonprofit professionals are honing their skills in today’s technology and techniques. New web tools, apps and social networks get them up close and personal to their supporters in ways that weren’t possible in the past.

It’s also helping the nonprofit community discovery what donors want and why they give.

As part of this surge in tech fundraising, a number of gatherings for nonprofit professionals focus exclusively  on technology for the sector. Nonprofits may want to make sure their finance folks get a good grounding in the practices that can boost donations for their organizations.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals, an umbrella group that serves a wide range of nonprofit groups, is hosting a conference June 4-5 in Orlando, FL, that features Apple co-founder and noted philanthropist Steve Wozniak as keynote speaker.
