When’s the last time you listened to your own voice mail greeting?
If you’re like most people, you don’t check it very often.

Give it a try. Do you like what you hear? Does it make a good impression? Is it useful? Is it up to date?

Check out these voice mail tips:
• It’s a good idea to leave a voice mail greeting in your own voice – not that of an assistant or secretary. Be sure to include your name, and if possible, how long you’ll be unreachable or when you will be checking messages. This information conveys both courtesy and consideration.

• Be helpful when referring calls. Give callers not only the name of the person you’re directing them to, but also provide the title or function of the person.

• Give a heads up to anyone you refer callers to. It can be really uncomfortable for both co-workers and callers if you don’t.
