Big salary boost in store for these IT jobs

If college-bound students are looking to follow the money into their future career, they may want to start giving computer degrees a more serious look. That’s because nearly a third of the highest paying jobs in the next decade are likely to be in IT-related fields.
Don’t take our word for it. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) compiles data on such things and the folks at 24/7 Wall St, analysts and commentators for equity investors, came up with a list of the six jobs they predict will be the highest paid in next ten years.
Coming in at No. 4 is Computer Applications Software Engineer. In the No. 6 spot: Systems Analyst.
With mobile apps and cloud computing coming on strong in the next few years, CAS Engineers will be in big demand to create software for these new technologies.
They’ll have a median income of about $94,000 and their ranks will swell by 34% to meet the demand. Most of the jobs for these folks will be in Washington, Colorado and Virginia.
Here’s the BLS take on the job: “As a result of rapid employment growth over the 2008 to 2018 decade, job prospects for computer software engineers should be excellent. Those with practical experience and at least a bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field should have the best opportunities.”
As for those Systems Analysts, it’s clear to see that as companies grow ever more dependent on their computer network for organizational communication and business intelligence, it’s going to critical to have the right personal managing this crucial infrastructure.
And that person is the Systems Analyst. Says BLS: “This position, only 30 years old, is expected to grow by 20%, adding nearly 110,000 jobs before the end of this decade. While an increasing number of businesses are requiring bachelor’s degrees, it is still very possible to get a job as a systems analyst with just a high school diploma and some certification. The median annual income, $77,740, is also one of the best salaries one can get without a college degree.”
Expect to see a 20% rise in the number of jobs with this title and look to New Jersey, Delaware and Virginia to create many of them.
Finance needs to know what they can expect to pay for these folks and how tough it could be to recruit them. To read more about the 24/7 Wall Street analysis, visit here.
