IT jobs news isn’t so bad
June 4, 2008 by Valerie HelmbreckPosted in: Budgets and spending, Latest News & Views
The latest data’s in and it looks like IT jobs are taking something of a hit in the current economy, but the industry’s not suffering as much as others.
Job openings for IT workers declined 3% from this time last year, says the latest Dice Report.
If you exclude the New York metropolitan area, however, the news is even better. It show a decrease of only about 1.5%.
These numbers hint that the tech industry is weathering the rough U.S. economy and IT systems aren’t being neglected because of the recession that looms ever larger.
The IT jobs numbers are consistent with recent jobs data on computer services from the U.S. Department of Labor and info from Forrester Research Inc.
Who’s taking the biggest hit in this uncertain economy? The financial firms and Wall Street.
