Palin e-mail attack demonstrates an easy hack

The hacker who broke into GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin’s Yahoo e-mail account gave us an important reminder: It’s not very tough to sail past most e-mail security.
The hacker, in this case, is suspected of being a 20-year-old who used a few Google searches and some info from Wikipedia to bypass the security filters at Yahoo and change Palin’s password.
Once the password was changed, the hacker had access to the account and all its e-mails.
Among the security questions that are simple to figure out are things like “where did you meet your spouse?” “What’s your zip code?” “What’s your mother’s maiden name?”
For even the semi-famous, these details aren’t often tough to find out.
You might want to consider this when you’re setting up security for your organization’s e-mail accounts — especially if the folks you’re protecting send and receive sensitive company finance or personnel data.
