Your company might have kicked around the idea of leasing IT equipment, and maybe you’ve even tried it in a few cases.

However, if you want to see the big benefits from this financing strategy, you’re probably going to have to tackle it full out with PCs, servers, infrastructure, the works.

The ways you categorize the lease is critical — and that’s something you’ll have to make clear to your tech folks. And you might have to pay to insure all the equipment your company leases.

All that being said, you stand to see big savings and other benefits to going the lease route, including:

More consistent budgets. Replacing a $250,000 network could eat up a huge chunk of your IT budget. There’s never a good time for a major expense like that, but what if the cost hits at a really bad time — like the middle of a recession? In the current economic climate, most organizations are trying to keep a lid on tech spending until the rocky economy settles down.

Keeping Current. It’s often fixing broken equipment that raises IT costs. But staying on top of the tech curve can keep your company streamlined and productive. By leasing, you eliminate maintainence costs and all funds can be directed toward improving infrastructure.

Driving down costs. With a fair market-value lease, you can end up paying no more than you would had you bought the equipment outright, but spread out and with no aged hardware to unload later. If you’re in it for the long haul, many vendors will cut you some breaks.
