Warn users about this new e-mail scam

Here’s a new e-mail ruse you’ll want to warn users about.
Taking advantage of the attention surrounding the Making Work Pay tax credit, fraudsters have been sending e-mails supposedly from the IRS explaining how to get tax refunds directly deposited into a bank account. Of course, the e-mails ask recipients to enter their account numbers, which are then stolen.
Fraudsters impersonate the IRS regularly, often sending what appear to be important tax forms that need to be filled.
But one important fact to keep in mind — and to warn employees about: The IRS never initiates conversations with taxpayers over e-mail.
To help fight e-mail scams, the IRS requests any suspicious e-mails be forwarded to phishing@irs.gov.
